The MASS EFFECTS Film Series brings needed attention to criminal justice reform and how mass incarceration affects not just those who are jailed, but how the Black family is affected psychologically and socio-economically, as well as their community.

The films are important, the conversations after even more so.

This edition is also co-sponsored by Man Up Inc.

THE TOMBS

directed by Jerry LaMothe

A Brooklyn man has a perilous three-day journey through New York's infamous central booking jail system, famously known as The Tombs. This powerful short film from director Jerry LaMothe (BlacKout, Nora’s Hair Salon) provides a scary glimpse of what it’s like to be caught up in the criminal ‘justice’ system.

For 'The Tombs,' our post-screening conversation will focus on the targeting of Black men and women for the prison system, how 'stop & frisk' systematized non-necessary arrests and prison records, and more.

starring Nashawn Kearse, Rob Morgan, Ephraim Benton, Omar Scroggins, Rosalyn Coleman, Jas Anderson, and Arthur French
