EVE’S BAYOU

1997 • 109 min • United States

Directed by Kasi Lemmons

As the summer heats up in rural Louisiana in 1962, the Batiste family tries to survive the secrets they’ve kept and the betrayals they’ve endured.  Part a young Black girl’s coming-of-age story,  part exploration of Southern middle-class Black life, and part Southern gothic, Eve’s Bayou uses the brilliant performances of a young Jurnee Smollet and Megan Good (both in their feature film debuts), Lynn Whitfield (OWN TV’s “Greenleaf”),  Samuel L. Jackson (who’s in everything!), and the fantastic Debbi Morgan (“Love & Basketball”, ABC’s “General Hospital”) to play with memory and perception with devastating results.

Eve’s Bayou is rated R for sexuality and language
